Is Swordfish Kosher?

Swordfish (Xiphias gladius) is a large, predatory fish that can grow to be quite large (often reaching 3 meters/10 feet!). They are in the billfish family, which means they’re related to marlin. Swordfish is a commonly consumed fish, and is typically characterized by a firm, white flesh and is often served grilled. Like marlin, it’s known to have a relatively high mercury content.

If you’re curious as to whether swordfish is kosher, here’s the answer:  According to Chabad, who received their information from the Orthodox Union, swordfish is NOT a kosher fish.
